Michael Connor is the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) where he sets the policy related to the Army鈥檚 Civil Works program and is the civilian responsible for overseeing the US Army Corps of Engineers. In this role, he establishes policy direction and supervises programs for conservation and development of the nation鈥檚 water resources, shoreline protection, wetlands, and major ecosystem restoration projects. Previously, Mr. Connor served as the Deputy Secretary of Interior during the Obama Administration, where he was the first person of Native American descent to serve in that position. Mr. Connor also served as the Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, counsel to the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and began his career in federal service in the DOI Solicitor鈥檚 office and then as the director of the Department of Interior鈥檚 Indian Water Rights Office.
