The following is an excerpt from a  published by the Duke Climate Commitment:

After graduating from Yale in political science, Tim Profeta [a graduate from the Master of Environmental Management Program at the Nicholas School of the Environment] volunteered at the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC).

鈥淓nvironmental issues are this multidimensional multidisciplinary monster and I didn鈥檛 know exactly where my passion was. I got exposed to all these people 鈥 economists, chemists, biologists, lawyers. I realized I liked the role of the lawyer. I wanted to be the one who put the suit on and executed on all this acquired knowledge.鈥

Profeta ended up applying to Duke Law School, where the dean of admissions, after hearing about his passion for the environment, asked whether he鈥檇 be interested in pursuing a joint master鈥檚 degree in environmental management to go with his law degree.

鈥淗ere was Duke personalizing my educational path for me,鈥 he recalled. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 when I knew I belonged here.鈥
