DURHAM, N.C.— Doctoral students Ningjie Hu and Graden Froese will receive this year’s Dean’s Awards for Outstanding Graduate ���Ĵ�ý Manuscript.

The Nicholas School of the Environment has presented the annual awards since 2008 to recognize excellence in graduate student research.

Toddi Steelman, Stanback Dean of the Nicholas School, will present Hu and Froese each with a $1000 cash prize and a framed certificate at the school’s graduation ceremony on May 7.

Hu was recognized for her paper, “Wave-Climate Asymmetry Influence on Delta Evolution and River Dynamics,” which was published in Geophysical Research Letters.

Froese was recognized for his paper, “Coupling Paraecology and Hunter GPS Self-Follows to Quantify Village Bushmeat Hunting Dynamics Across the Landscape Scale,” which was published in the African Journal of Ecology.

Three other doctoral students received Honorable Mentions for their papers. They are:

• Keqi He for “Detecting Coastal Wetland Degradation by Combining Remote Sensing and Hydrological Modeling,” which was published in the journal Forests;
• Erika Smull for “Rising Market Risk Exposure of Municipal Water Service Providers in Distressed Cities,” which was published in the Journal of Water Resources Planning & Management; and
• Xiaodong Zhang for “A Review of Publicly Available Data Sources for Models to Study Renewables Integration in China’s Power System,” which was published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.
