Grant Murray has been promoted from associate professor of marine policy to full professor in the Division of Marine Science and Conservation within the Nicholas School of the Environment. Murray鈥檚 work explores how coastal communities interact with and experience change in the marine environment.

For example, his research has highlighted how power, values and governance shape conservation outcomes in protected areas and adjacent communities. His work has also helped bridge community knowledge, science and management to enhance local ecological knowledge.

Additionally, Murray has contributed insights regarding seafood production systems, including aquaculture, small-scale fisheries, and the social and cultural values that underpin them.

Murray is also associate dean for professional programs and co-chair coastal and marine systems at the Nicholas School.
