DURHAM – Jeffrey Vincent, Clarence F. Korstian Professor of Forest Economics and Management, is the recipient of the 2023 Lynn Maguire Award for Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Professional ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½s.

Vincent was nominated by students for the award, which recognizes Nicholas School of the Environment faculty members who excel as teachers in and out of the classroom and go above and beyond in their commitment to mentoring and advising.

The award is named in honor of Lynn Maguire, a founding faculty member of the school who retired in 2017 and whose dedication to teaching and mentoring professional graduate students was legendary.

In addition to teaching many of the school’s most highly rated courses on forest and resource economics, Vincent co-chairs the school’s Master of Forestry program and is faculty advisor to the Duke student chapter of the Society of American Foresters.

In nominating him for the 2023 award, students noted how well organized, eloquent and mindful he is in his teaching and mentoring, and how generous he is in providing one-on-one career and internship advice to students. They also commended him for serving as a sounding board and devil’s advocate for Master’s Projects—even those on which he is not the official faculty advisor.
