Researcher Dana Wright is one of a handful of scientists studying one of the world’s rarest creatures, the North Pacific right whale.

Levasseur, a fifth-year Environmental Health doctoral student in Heather Stapleton’s lab, and Elliott, a fourth-year Marine Science & Conservation doctoral student in Andrew Read’s lab, each will receive a $1,000 cash award and a framed certificate.

Juliet Wong will join the faculty at ���Ĵ�ý’s Nicholas School of the Environment as assistant professor of coastal and marine climate change, effective July 1. Wong’s research focuses on how impacts from climate change, such as ocean acidification and warming, affect marine invertebrates.

Steelman’s talk, “Managing Wildfire, Governing Ourselves,” will explore how communities and agencies can interact to more effectively manage the large, interjurisdictionally complex wildfires that are now occurring more frequently because of climate change.

More than 250 guests gathered at the Duke Marine Lab on Friday, April 28, to celebrate the life and career of the late, great Joe Bonaventura and dedicate a grove of trees in his honor.
